Attracting talent seems harder than it has ever been. Candidates often have the luxury of choice, forcing employers to be increasingly creative in order to stand out. A strong employer brand not only helps your organization be perceived as an attractive workplace but also ensures that employees stay longer. We provide eight concrete tips to strengthen your brand as an employer.
1. Refine your organization's EVP
What makes your organization unique as an employer? Formulate a strong Employee Value Proposition that reflects the essence of your employer promise. Gather honest feedback from your employees and learn from it. The more colleagues you involve, the clearer and more representative your EVP becomes.
2. Map out your target audience
To optimally align your communication and recruitment campaigns with your target audience, you need to put yourself in the shoes of your ideal candidates. How do you find them? Which touchpoints can you utilize? Is the information you provide complete and accessible via mobile? Speak the language of your target audience and provide a clear picture of the vacancy and your organization.
3. Ensure a consistent brand identity
Analyze your current brand identity as an employer, from the imagery on your website to the specific vacancies and the work environment of your organization. Ensure that the experience is consistent everywhere, and keep in mind that candidates are sensitive to appearance and design. Also, ensure that your brand story does not revolve solely around numbers and products.
4. Share authentic content
Bring your EVP and company culture to life with content that strikes a chord. Think, for example, of employee stories or a fascinating behind-the-scenes look. Above all, stay true to yourself. Employer branding is not a marketing campaign, but an authentic story. If your story does not align with reality, candidates will see through it.
5. Increase your online visibility
Promote your employer brand on the digital channels where your target audience is active. Focus on a few strong platforms rather than a scattered presence without much impact. Be consistent and patient: you don't build a strong employer brand in a few weeks or months.
6. Invest in your employee experience
Satisfied employees form the basis for a strong employer brand. Ensure that onboarding and the first few weeks of work for new employees run as smoothly as possible. Involve your employees at all levels so that your EVP is embraced internally. This ensures that your employer branding is consistent with the reality in the workplace.
7. Use employees as ambassadors
Your employees are your brand's best ambassadors. Encourage them to share their experiences, both online and offline. Videos from your employees generate strong content and strengthen team spirit. The energy and feel-good vibes resulting from this ensure that your employees' testimonials come across as authentic and credible.
8. Keep evaluating and adjusting
Employer branding is not a short-term project. Keep evaluating, adjusting, and innovating. Be flexible, stay creative, and constantly seek to align with the candidates you are looking for. Also, do not be afraid to question your assumptions if recruitment remains difficult. By continuously optimizing, you stay on top of things and continue building a strong employer brand.
